Some examples follow:</p> <ul> <li><a href="http://www.ancient-greece.org/images/museums/heraklion-mus/images/154_5465b_jpg.jpg">The statuette appears to be a goddess or high priestess, and the dress which covers the body all the way to the ground while leaving the breasts exposed was typical of Minoan women attire.</a></li> <li><a href="http://www.ancient-greece.org/images/museums/heraklion-mus/pages/154_5466_jpg.htm">a priestess</a></li> <li><a href="http://www.ancient-greece.org/images/museums/heraklion-mus/pages/DSC00037_jpg.htm">scene at a funeral</a></li> </ul> <p>In the third image above the women seems to wear a skirt made of animal skin. The previous images seem to image elaborately tailored dresses. But this is likely an illusion since weaving skill and tailoring could not have been that well developed. This seems likely because the later clothing of ancient Greece is based on a rectangle of cloth. One possibility is that the garments are simply made of string. With this possibility in minnd the following images were made with dolls clothed in garments made of string. The costume consists of a flounced skirt and a girdle.
