The ancient Greeks believed in the existence of many deities. With each deity was associated a realm. This realm could be a physical feature or bounded land. It could also be a human activity or quality. There are also goddesses of humal ideals. Though few today believe in the reality of these deities the goddesses are still useful as personifications of the realm they are associated with.
